Re: Working with children at home
Thank you to Year 11 parents who came out in force to support their children and work with teachers at the recent evening event. There were lots of strategies to support revision at home in the last few weeks of year 11. Thank you to so many parents who have written in to say how useful it was.
As children get older they can sometimes put barriers in the way of their own learning and development. Parents and teachers have all heard, all too frequently, “I can’t do it..” and other similar phrases.
Fact 3
When the lead bird tires, it rotates back into the formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.
Fact 2
When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.
In this series of short blogs, I am going to refer to ‘Lessons from Geese’. This was originally written in 1972 by Dr. Robert McNeish, Baltimore. Dr McNeish was a science teacher for many years before he became a school leader. Many educationalists have found parallels in his work with teaching in schools today. Teacher trainers have used the piece as the messages about community are helpful for teachers working together for a common goal.

Our open evening last week was a particularly busy one for Highdown. It was fantastic that over 500 people came to visit us on the evening.
