The Carnegie Medal is a prestigious annual children’s book award. Each year hundreds of schools ‘shadow’ the award, reading the shortlisted books and hoping their favourite will win.

The Highdown Book Hounds, our year 7 shadowing group, met every Thursday morning in the Library for hot chocolate, brioche and to compare notes on the shortlisted books they were currently reading. The title of the winning book was announced on Monday 19 June and we held a party in the Library to celebrate. The best news of all was that the winning book, ‘Salt to the Sea’ by Ruta Septys, was also our first choice. We can’t wait for next year!
