Week B

£1000 Raised By Travel and Tourism Students

An important aspect of the Travel industry is Event Management, and an essential skill within team work is being able to run an event which appears seamless from start to finish.  Not an easy challenge but one which the current group of year 12 Travel & Tourism students not only met but far exceeded.

57 tickets were sold for their Quiz Night, buffet and silent promises auction at Reading Golf Club, during the course of the evening over £1000 was raised to support the John Radcliffe Children’s ward charity and feedback ranged from ‘ what a great night, so impressed by what the students have achieved ‘ to ‘ Brilliant event !’  The 6 students who planned and ran the event also agreed that ‘it was hard work but we really enjoyed the night and want to do it all over again!’

The teacher’s table also went home as triumphant prize winners having claimed first place in the quiz.

Likewise, the 5 students who organised a 5 a side football tournament for years 7, 8 and 9 successfully organised and refereed a hard fought battle between these younger years which resulted in good sportsmanship and team work, whilst also raising a significant amount of money for Sue Ryder.  Margaret the representative from the charity who spectated the event from the side-lines was as equally impressed by the evident hard work and enthusiasm shown by these students.

Overall, whilst the charities have benefitted from these efforts, the students have discovered and developed new skills and strengths, and they have all delivered events of which they can be very proud.
