A Level Further Mathematics is a rigorous and challenging area of study. You will build on the topics covered in A Level Mathematics as well as having the opportunity to study areas of Mathematics that may not otherwise be met until University. You will develop your problem solving skills and learn to communicate solutions in an efficient and concise way for both Pure Mathematics and Applied modules.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 8+ in Mathematics or 7+ in Mathematics with A* in Further Mathematics (if studied), plus the standard Sixth Form entry requirements.



In addition to further study in the A Level topics you will study:

  • Complex Numbers
  • Matrices
  • Calculus
  • Polar Coordinates
  • Hyperbolic Functions
  • Differential Equations

You will also study two of the following areas of Mathematics:

  • Mechanics
  • Statistics
  • Discrete



Three two hour papers to be taken at the end of Year 13.


Post 18 Opportunities

Students with a Further Mathematics qualification go on to study many courses at university from engineering, accountancy, and operational research to pure science and mathematics.

  • Nottingham University – Mathematics
