Welcome to Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre – an Outstanding Academy – serving the communities of Caversham and Emmer Green to the north of Reading, Berkshire.
Our vision is to continue to be a creative, dynamic and exciting school where children value learning. They are ably supported and encouraged by a highly motivated, committed team of staff. With accommodation, resources and facilities that meet their needs, dreams and aspirations, Highdown Students are ensured of a great start to their lives.
We strive for excellence and expect the highest standards and achievements from our students, in their behaviour, their effort and their attitude, both within school and in their personal lives. In return for this commitment we offer a rich and diverse education in a calm and purposeful atmosphere with many opportunities for students to meet their individual aspirations and aptitudes. Our students achieve the success they deserve and leave as well-qualified individuals, confident to take their place in society and with the empowerment, skills and self-esteem to make a success of their lives.
Our Ofsted inspection report in 2010 describes us as Outstanding.
This website will give you an idea of the excellent range of opportunities we offer. As an Outstanding Academy, we are able to increase these opportunities and enable our students to benefit from a broader range of curriculum subjects, for example in languages, and improved resources, for example in sporting facilities. We continually evaluate what we do and so strive for continuous improvement.
These opportunities obviously include Highdown Staff. For members of staff, we offer a fantastic development programme for all stages of teaching and support staff careers. Please see recruitment section of this website if you are interested in joining the Highdown Team.
We are always pleased to welcome visitors to our school – if you can’t make any of our scheduled open mornings, we will be delighted to show you round on a normal working day - contact the school and arrangements can be made for me or one of my senior staff to give you a tour and answer any questions you may have.
