Some examples of our commitment to working beyond the gate:

1. International Schools Award for our Curriculum and enrichment opportunities:

We have successfully been re-accredited with the International Schools Award for 2018-21. At Highdown we celebrate our school’s international work with the British Council’s International School Award. This globally recognised accreditation helps us to enrich learning and improve teaching by guiding our international learning activities and embedding the international perspective within our school culture. It gives our students a window into different cultures and countries, helping them develop as responsible global citizens and preparing them for life and work in a global society. The International School Award enables us to benefit from all the opportunities that international education can offer by providing a framework to plan, evaluate and celebrate our international learning activities. This work is based on the concepts of diversity, conflict resolution, human rights, interdependence, social justice, sustainable development, perceptions and values; including our school values. As well as embedding an international dimension within our curriculum there are also a number of specific activities that we are running. These include: International trips e.g. Krakow, the Western Front and France, celebrating the Chinese New Year involving outreach work with a local primary school, exploring the migrant crisis, TourAid (Orkeeswa Secondary School, Tanzania)Connecting Classroom with Nepal and an enterprise activity with Maartens College, the Netherlands.
