What’s in the library?

The FICTION collection aims to satisfy all readers from year 7 – year 13 and there is a modern adult collection as well as the usual classics. Following book awards such as the Carnegie Medal and the Red House Children’s Book Award, for which we are a testing group, keeps the collection up to date.

AUDIO BOOKS are available on the same terms as the text versions. These are mainly on CD but we can also offer some on MP3.

There is large collection of NON-FICTION books to help with homework, research project and for general interest.

MAGAZINES – Lots of periodicals, such as Philip Allan Subject Reviews, Ingenia, Society Now and Planet Earth to enhance learning.

The CAREERS section has a comprehensive set of books on working in all the different job groups as well as titles that give information to help students choose the best course and university.

Wokingham Book Festival

Wokingham Children's Book Festival takes places on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October.  There are lots of activities for children up to age 12 over the weekend.  Please see below for more information.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Book Fair is starting on Wednesday 9 October 2019.

In the Highdown library, we strive to have an updated collection that isn't only valuable in an educational way, but also something the students would like to read for pleasure. To support this a Book Fair is coming to the school where books are available to be purchased to read at home. If our goal of £300 in total sales is reached then the library will receive half of the total sum for free to spend on books for the library! So, if our goal is achieved we receive £150 to spend. If the total amount reaches £400 we receive £200 to spend and so on.

Why not take this opportunity to try out reading the same book alongside your child? Or to find a Christmas gift for that bookish person you know!

All the information you need is in the Book Fair catalogue. There is an opportunity to buy vouchers to use at this Book Fair and receive an extra 20% to spend, but they must be purchased by midnight on 7 October at the latest.
