Train to teach With Us

Train to Teach with Highdown School!

Do you want a career that makes a difference?

Training as a teacher could be the exciting and rewarding career you have been looking for!

There are many ways to train to teach and Highdown School is committed to helping those interested in teaching to find the correct route.

Highdown School is fortunate to have access to GLF Schools Teacher Training as a part of GLF’s broader organisation, and we also benefit from GLF SCITT core training once a week either right here at Highdown School or at Aureus School in Reading.

Highdown School, as part of GLF Schools, is committed to professional development from the very start of your teaching career and values collaborating with the GLF Teaching School Hub, which offers training to trainee teachers, early career teachers and leaders. GLF as a Trust is proud of its Teaching School Hub status which has been given to only 87 other schools in the country, recognising our expertise and experience in delivering high quality teacher training at all levels. GLF Teacher Training is a Lead Partner for Inspiring Future Teachers, a national teacher training organisation which offers broader experiences for our trainees.

School Experience

We believe that having some school experience is highly beneficial if you are considering training to be a teacher as it allows you to see the nature of the role and ensure that it is right for you before you apply or undertake your training.

  • To support potential applicants and gain this invaluable experience, GLF Teacher Training offers one-day School Experience visits to a selection of schools within our partnership. These experience days are only open to eligible candidates to start teacher training programmes in September 2026
  • Often, those keen to train like to pre-visit the school they are applying to, so they are familiar with its aims and values
  • To register for more information and to find out if you are eligible, please complete our registration form HERE
  • Our School Experience programme in any of our GLF schools can be found by visiting the Department for Education’s School Experience site Get school experience - GOV.UK or by contacting us info@glftt.org
